METMalaysia Issues Thunderstorm Warning Until 9 PM Tonight

METMalaysia has issued a severe weather alert, warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds across multiple states in Peninsular Malaysia, along with parts of Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan. The warning is active until 9 PM tonight, urging residents in affected areas to exercise caution.

The meteorological department specified the areas under the alert. In Peninsular Malaysia, the affected states include Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor. Several districts within these states are specifically highlighted, such as Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, and Pendang in Kedah; Kerian, Larut, Matang, and Selama in Perak; Dungun and Kemaman in Terengganu; and Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, Kuantan, Bera, and Rompin in Pahang.

In East Malaysia, the alert covers areas in Sarawak including Mukah, Kapit (Song), Bintulu, Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri, Marudi), and Limbang. Sabah is affected in the Interior and West Coast regions (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Ranau), as well as Tawau, Tongod, and Telupid in Sandakan. Labuan is also included in the warning.

METMalaysia defines a thunderstorm warning as an indication of rain intensity exceeding 20 millimeters per hour that is imminent or expected to continue for over an hour. These short-term warnings are valid for a maximum of six hours per issuance. Citizens are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions.
