Motorcyclist without license hits two pedestrians; witnesses say he was doing a wheelie

A serious traffic accident occurred on Route 8 in Montevideo, Uruguay, when a motorcycle struck two pedestrians walking along the roadside. Witnesses reported that the motorcyclist was engaged in a dangerous maneuver, performing a wheelie, which involves lifting the front wheel of the bike while riding.

The incident happened shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday. According to Policía Caminera, the national traffic police, the two pedestrians, a 64-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man, were walking on the shoulder in the same direction as the motorcycle. The 19-year-old motorcyclist, who was unharmed and tested negative for alcohol, was subsequently found to be operating the vehicle without a license.

While the male pedestrian escaped injury, the female pedestrian was transported to a clinic in critical condition. She was diagnosed with multiple head traumas and a fractured left leg, which was left exposed. The accident highlights the risks associated with reckless driving and the severe consequences it can have on innocent bystanders.

In a separate incident reported on the same day, a 26-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in a business in the Tres Cruces neighborhood. Her 47-year-old partner, who worked at the same establishment, is the primary suspect and has been detained. The Ministry of the Interior is investigating the case as a homicide related to gender-based violence. Police responded to calls reporting a violent altercation and found the woman deceased with multiple stab wounds. The couple reportedly had no prior history of domestic violence complaints.
