Senario celebrates 30 years with reunion concert, emphasizes meaningful humor

The legendary Malaysian comedy troupe Senario recently captivated audiences with their 'Senario Reunion 30 Tahun Last Kopek' concert, marking three decades of laughter and entertainment. The group, comprising Azlee Jaafar, Lan Pet Pet, Wahid, Ilya, Saiful Apek, and Yassin, delivered a high-energy performance featuring 20 of their most beloved songs.

Central to Senario's enduring appeal is their unique brand of humor, which consistently carries meaningful messages and social commentary. Azlee Jaafar elaborated on this philosophy, stating that their jokes often serve as allegories for collective reflection, and their songs are imbued with lessons and advice. While acknowledging that their humor isn't always strictly 'clean,' Azlee stressed the importance of self-regulation to ensure their comedy never becomes cruel or offensive to the audience.

Our songs are folk-themed, with messages. If you listen again, there are lessons in them. But if you say our humor is 100 percent good, it's not. Sometimes it goes overboard. We just need to control it so that it doesn't become cruel to others. We don't go so far as to make our audience the subject of our jokes.

A particularly touching moment of the concert was the appearance of Muhammad Zeyreen Misha, son of the late Hamdan Senario. He joined the group on stage to perform 'Kasihnya Ayah,' a song that resonated deeply with the audience, serving as a heartfelt tribute to his father's legacy. The group's continued connection with Hamdan's family, including presenting him with an Anugerah Bintang Popular trophy, highlights their strong bonds and respect for their former member.

The concert also saw a memorable performance by Aina Abdul, who delivered renditions of 'Zapin Usik Mengusik' and 'Zapin Cinta SMS.' Azlee praised her performance, noting her professionalism and the successful collaboration.
