Sergipe Governor Leads Polls for Re-election

Governor Fábio Mitidieri is positioned to win re-election in Sergipe, according to a new poll released by Quaest. Mitidieri, representing the PSD party, holds a significant lead with 40% of voter intentions for the first round of the gubernatorial election.

Trailing Mitidieri is Valmir de Francisquinho, the former mayor of Itabaiana and candidate for the Republicans party, who garnered 28% of voter intentions. Ricardo Marques of the PL party is in third place with 5%. The poll also identified 17% of voters as undecided.

In a simulated second-round scenario between the top two contenders, Mitidieri maintains his advantage, securing 47% of the vote compared to Francisquinho's 34%. The survey, conducted by Quaest for TV Sergipe, interviewed 804 individuals face-to-face from August 23 to 26, with a maximum margin of error of three percentage points.

Mitidieri, despite his party's national candidate being Ronaldo Caiado of the PSD, has publicly declared his support for President Lula's re-election bid, receiving Lula's endorsement in return. This alignment highlights the complex political dynamics within Brazil, where state-level alliances can diverge from national party platforms.
