Soldiers Neutralize Terrorist, Recover Arms in Kogi Ambush

In a significant counter-terrorism operation, troops from the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have successfully neutralized a suspected terrorist within Kogi State. The operation, which took place in the early hours of Sunday, May 10, 2026, was a result of a meticulously planned ambush along known bandit crossing points in the Adankolo Forest Reserve, Lokoja Local Government Area. This decisive action underscores the Nigerian Army's commitment to combating insecurity and protecting citizens.

According to a statement issued by Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, the troops acted upon credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected terrorists. During the engagement, the troops made contact and engaged the terrorists in a firefight, resulting in the neutralization of one terrorist. Several others reportedly fled with gunshot wounds, prompting an ongoing search operation to apprehend them.

Acting on credible intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists within the general area, troops from 12 Brigade Quick Response Group laid in wait at a suspected crossing point in the early hours of Sunday, May 10, 2026. During the operation, the troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them in a firefight, neutralising one terrorist while others fled with gunshot wounds into the surrounding bush.

The successful operation led to the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles, one fabricated pistol, six magazines, and 145 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Additionally, other items such as a camouflage bandolier, a Honda motorcycle, Diclofenac medication, three mobile phones, three power banks, and a sum of N62,900 were recovered. This recovery highlights the operational capacity of the terrorist group and the importance of such intelligence-led operations in disrupting their activities. The recovery of these items is crucial in preventing further acts of terror and aiding ongoing investigations.

This successful operation is a key component of Operation TIGER PAW II, spearheaded by the 12 Brigade. The operation's primary objective is to deny terrorists the freedom to operate and to bolster security along major routes and within communities in Kogi State and its environs.
