TNB, Air Selangor strengthen national utility infrastructure

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn. Bhd. (Air Selangor) have formalized a strategic partnership aimed at bolstering the resilience and sustainability of Malaysia's vital energy and water infrastructure. The collaboration is cemented through a Power Supply Agreement (PSA) and a Cooling Energy Supply Agreement (CESA).

This cooperation demonstrates that closer integration between the energy and water sectors can strengthen the resilience of the nation's critical infrastructure, as well as support Malaysia's long-term development agenda.

Under the PSA, TNB will provide high-voltage electricity to Air Selangor's Sungai Rasau Water Treatment Plant in Kuala Langat. This facility, set to be Southeast Asia's largest upon completion in 2031 with a capacity of 1,400 million liters per day, will supply clean water to 9.62 million users across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya. Notably, the Sungai Rasau plant will be the first in Malaysia to receive direct 132 kilovolt (kV) electricity supply, enhancing operational reliability and efficiency.

Furthermore, TNB Engineering Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (TNEC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of TNB, will offer Gas District Cooling services to Air Selangor's facility in Jalan Pantai Baharu under a 20-year concession. TNB President/CEO Datuk Ir. Ts. Shamsul Ahmad highlighted that this integration between the energy and water sectors strengthens critical national infrastructure and supports Malaysia's long-term development agenda. He emphasized TNB's commitment to innovative and sustainable energy solutions.

The initiative positions Air Selangor as the first water utility in Malaysia to utilize environmental cooling services, improving system reliability, energy performance, and operational efficiency compared to conventional cooling systems.
