Ukrainian border guards: Russians unable to establish buffer zone at the border

Ukrainian border guards have issued a stark assessment of the situation along the shared border with Russia, stating that Russian forces are failing in their attempts to establish a promised buffer zone. According to reports, Russia had announced plans to create a "gray" or buffer zone extending up to 20 kilometers into Ukrainian territory. However, despite sustained efforts and significant casualties, Russian troops have been unable to achieve substantial gains in expanding their control in this area.

The border region has transformed into a de facto frontline, characterized by intense fighting. Russian forces, often operating in small infantry groups, are reportedly employing heavy weaponry, including artillery and guided aerial bombs, alongside a large number of drones. Their objective appears to be the capture of numerous settlements directly adjacent to the border, presumably to solidify their control and create the desired buffer zone.
