After a period of unseasonably warm and sunny weather, Lithuania is bracing for a substantial shift as the active cyclone system 'Zuhal' sweeps across Europe. Meteorologist Elvyra Latvėnaitė warns that this system will bring a significant change, ushering in rain, cloud cover, and considerably cooler temperatures across the continent, with Lithuania positioned on its periphery. This means the weather will become highly variable, with some areas experiencing rain and clouds while others see brief sunny spells.

The transition begins on Monday, which will still see summer-like warmth but with the added risk of thunderstorms. By Tuesday, the weather will take on a more autumnal character, with rain spreading across most of the country, though western and northwestern regions may remain drier. However, the most significant change will occur by Wednesday, when rain is expected in most areas, and temperatures could drop significantly, particularly overnight in the western and northwestern parts of the country, potentially reaching 2-5 degrees Celsius with ground frost down to -2°C. This early frost poses a considerable risk to gardeners and farmers.

The latter half of the week is expected to bring more stable, though still unsettled, weather patterns. Thursday and Friday will see a mix of rain, primarily in the eastern and southern regions, with temperatures remaining moderate. The weekend forecast indicates more widespread and prolonged rain, with daytime temperatures only reaching 10-15 degrees Celsius. While Sunday might see some clearing in the afternoon, the overall trend for the week is a clear departure from the recent warmth, with increasing rainfall and cooler conditions.
