KRL Cikarang Line Targeted for Full Operation Today Following Safety Checks

PT KAI (Persero) Director Bobby Rasyidin announced that the KRL Cikarang Line is expected to fully resume operations today, restoring its previous frequency. This decision follows the National Transportation Safety Committee's (KNKT) approval for the reopening of Bekasi Timur Station as a KRL transit point. The KNKT's authorization is contingent upon the implementation of speed restrictions, a measure aimed at enhancing safety on this critical route.

The Ministry of Transportation, represented by Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, is actively involved in the preparatory stages, conducting crucial tests on the tracks and signaling systems. These trials are essential to guarantee that Bekasi Timur Station is fully prepared to serve passengers safely. Minister Purwagandhi emphasized that safety remains the paramount concern for PT KAI as they work towards reopening the station.

The reopening comes after a tragic accident on Monday, April 27, 2026, where the Argo Bromo Anggrek train collided with a stationary KRL at Bekasi Timur Station. The KRL had stopped due to an earlier incident involving a collision with an electric taxi. The impact severely damaged the women-only carriage of the KRL, leading to the deaths of 15 female passengers and injuring 84 others. This devastating event had led to the temporary closure of Bekasi Timur Station, disrupting KRL services on the Cikarang route.
