Lebanon Prepares for Third Round of Negotiations with Israel

Lebanon is actively preparing for a crucial third round of negotiations with Israel, a process being facilitated with the support of the United States. President Joseph Aoun has underscored the nation's commitment to this dialogue, viewing it as essential for Lebanon's interests amidst a highly sensitive regional climate.

"We are ready to accelerate the pace of negotiations as long as the United States does so. There is no way out other than this process because it serves the interests of all the Lebanese people," Aoun stated, highlighting the strategic importance of these talks. He met with a delegation from the Strong Republic parliamentary bloc to discuss the ongoing preparations.

President Aoun stressed the current fragile situation demands a strengthening of national unity. He believes that only through internal consolidation can Lebanon effectively confront increasingly complex political and security challenges. The upcoming third preparatory meeting, involving Lebanon's ambassador to Washington, is scheduled within days, aiming to pave the way for the resumption of US-brokered talks.

This initiative is seen as a significant achievement, reflecting direct attention from US President Donald Trump towards Lebanon's developments and the broader effort to promote regional stability. The core objectives of the negotiations remain unchanged: the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese territories and the release of prisoners as part of a comprehensive settlement. Aoun also emphasized the importance of supporting the military and state institutions as pillars of stability, especially given the severe economic and political pressures Lebanon has endured in recent years.
